More about the event background:

At the heart of this project is the belief that the arts have something essential to offer active duty military, veterans, and their families in addressing the challenges they are facing.  These challenges are serious and include a suicide rate above the national average with a significant increase in female suicide, more cases and consequences of Traumatic Brain Injuries or PTSD, substance abuse, depression, chronic pain, unemployment due to difficulties in transferring job skills, and homelessness.  Complex and multiple deployments and reintegrations create strain and stress on entire families.

The arts are a vehicle for telling stories of those who are too often silenced or forgotten, for giving voice to what is too painful to say in words, for healing, for understanding complex and challenging issues in a new way, for stirring empathy, and for building community.
