The NC health care environment is undergoing rapid change with consequences for the people and providers
in the Sandhills region which already experiences significant disparities in health and well-being. Moral
distress resulting from systemic and ethical dilemmas in the changing health landscape is a driver of provider
burnout. The William C. Friday Fellows program of Wildacres Leadership Initiative provides a model for dialogue
education that fosters communication, reflection, and community in the learning environment as well as the
relational skills necessary for leadership and well-being in complex systems. This monthly series will implement
a dialogue education model to examine and advance leadership approaches to transforming the system of care.
At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
• Create an interprofessional dialog education forum that supports articulating and exploring community health
as well as systemic and structural barriers to care.
• Model and co-lead a variety of civil discourse techniques across difference and disagreement.
• Examine the implications for Sandhills communities of the changing health care delivery and payment system.
• Describe and discuss care-based ethics that engage providers and community in relationship and engender
trust as well as the moral dilemmas and ethical challenges that contribute to burnout and disconnection.
There is no fee for this program. Participation is limited to first 18 registrants. Dinner is provided. Please indicate
dietary requirements during registration.
