Congratulations to all Friday Fellowship graduates who chose a public path of service and leadership in the November 2018 election cycle. While official results will be certified in the coming weeks, it appears six Friday Fellows were elected to office in the November 2018 election. Campaigning and service in elected office are heavy demands that test a person’s ability to continually demonstrate integrity, intention, and inclusion. The Fellowship community both celebrates successes and provides a space for support and reflection.

Jay Chaudhuri        Class of 2001      NC State Senate
15th NC Senate District which covers portions of central and eastern Wake County

Satana Deberry      Class of 1999      District Attorney
16th Prosecutorial District which covers all of Durham County

Christine Kushner   Class of 2003      Wake County Board of Education
6th Wake County School Board District which covers portions of central Wake County

Brandon Lofton       Class of 2014         NC State House of Representatives
104th NC House District which covers portions of south central Mecklenburg County

Graig Meyer       Class of 2003               NC State House of Representatives
50th NC House District which covers Caswell County and portions of Orange County

Keith Sutton          Class of 1997            Wake County Board of Education

Chaudhuri, Kushner, Meyer, and Sutton were re-elected as incumbents although some areas represented may have changed due to redistricting. Deberry and Lofton have been elected for the first time to their respective offices. NC Senate and NC House members serve two year terms. District Attorneys are elected to four year terms.

No matter the time in an electoral cycle, Bill Friday’s advice on listening is always sound.

If a Friday Fellow in the 2018 election has been omitted, please email.
